My First Card Making Workshop

I tried my hand at running a card making workshop at church this weekend and these are the projects I organised. I had wanted to take some photos of what we made but I forgot to take my camera with me. Not that I'd have had the time to take any photos if I had remembered because, even though I only had seven participants, I was completely run off my feet from the time we started. Maybe those of you who are more experienced at the workshop thing than I am can tell me if this is typical or if I was just badly organised. I did have some complete non crafters. I had thought that the cards were pretty simple and that we would easily be able to complete them in a couple of hours but it took much nearer three. Anyway everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and several people are hoping I'll run another one.

I'm entering this last white card to the Shabby Tea Room challenge which is stamping only and no patterned paper and hand made embellies. Stamp is by Verve Stamps. Thanks for visiting, especially to those of you who leave comments.

Hi Julie! These cards are so beautiful! I loved hearing about your workshop. It doesn't sound like you were badly organised at all. When I've attended SU workshops with 4 other ladies, had all the paper pre-cut to size, and only had to share ink pads and the like between 2 of us, it still took us 3 hours to just about finish 4 cards, and we were working without a break! I bet everyone had a blast! I love workshops, but we don't have any here in Bristol except SU ones (that I know of, LOL!). Hugs, Sem x

Oh gorgeous cards Julie. I think sometimes with the first workshop you not sure what to expect. You probably realise now what worked and what didn't. Novice cardmarkers do need extra help too.

Fortunate ladies to be at your workshop Julie. You weren't disorganised. You had non-crafters so I think you did well to do two such lovely cards. I don't wonder that the ladies would like more workshops!
I wouldn't mind going myself.

Beautiful cards Julie; as always.
I used to do workshops and learned quickly that they always go longer than I expected. Partially due to non crafters, but the major reason is that the ladies loved visiting. That tends to cut in to the allotted time. So I have no doubt that you were organized, it just the nature of the beast. The larger the shop allow for more time.
I envy the ladies that were able to attend your workshop.

Your cards are amazing. Please tell me what dies you use for the flowers as I have bought 2 sets of Joys dies so far and they are not the right ones.

Fantastic cards, Julie! Your students must have really loved it! I do run classes and I limit them in numbers to 6 or less as it gets too frantic otherwise and I can tell you, especially if you have non-crafters amongst them, it ALWAYS takes a lot longer than you think! I usually do two projects/cards per session and we need between 2 and three hours!
But I'd jump at a chance to do one with you :-)
Love, alex

Your cards are beautiful! I've been to a number of workshops over the years. If you have the pieces precut, I would say it takes longer because people love to chat and lose track of time. There's little you can do about that but perhaps have a clock somewhere that can be easily be seen to remind the ladies that time is passing.Everyone generally has a schedule but once you get visiting and crafting, it's easy for time to slip away. A gentle time reminder might help some people but it isn't likely to help everyone. How about a little prize for the first one or two to correctly finish their cards? Prizes can be very motivating!
