Papertake Weekly - Odette

I've not been using my Copics that much lately and I've been wondering whether I should get anymore so I decided to colour up two identical images and see which one I liked best. I've used Odette a digi image from The Greeting Farm and coloured one with pencils and one with Copics. It hasn't really helped because I can't decide lol. I really like the way the skin came out on the Copic image but I find the pencils a bit easier because I can blend and create colours especially pale colours more easily. Don't know if it's a matter of practice with the Copics or if I'd find it easier if I had more colours.

I didn't have a card in mind when I coloured them but when I opened up the lastest issue of Simply Cards and Papercrafts the freebie papers seemed to match so I've used them together with the Papertake sketch to make two cards. Let me know if you have a preference. (Great day - Copic, Missing you - pencil.)

Hi Julie, both look gorgeous to me! I guess the colours look brighter in the second picture, but the first is great too. So glad I found your blog - so much inspiration and colour here, Jo x

Mmm! I think I like both of them LOL! It is amazing how different they look just for having different papers! Fab! Kim

Hi Julie they both look good. If I am using my Prisma pencils I still tend to use the copics for the skin as it looks better. I do like the effect of the pencils on the clothes so I use a bit of both.

Both look wonderful! I've found with copics it really is a matter of learning and practice.
Fabulous job!

I love both cards Julie. But like you I struggled with the effort it seemed to take with the copics. But I did find, once I started to get a collection they were so fun to work with. I love the vibrant look the copics give. But when doing a soft card, such as a baby card, I love the pencils! I think you do an amazing job with both!

Oh your post had me smiling Julie, you see i find that some of my stamps...say the new KraftinKimmie stamps lend themselves better to being coloured with Prismas for that grungy look i just cant get with Copics...but then i love the finish and vibrancy you get with the pens...I'd say buy some more Julie, lol, you know you'll use them :) Gorgeous cards by the way ;D thanks for your warm wishes earlier, i'm a real grump in this weather..Love Katy x

I love both of your cards, the copics are certainly more vibrant and stand out. The more shades you have the easier it is to blend the colours, but I agree with Janet and using a bit of both mediums works well. Elaine

I think they are both fabulous! You seem to have blended both equally well and the hair is excellent on both of them. The copics give a richer effect and the pencils are more subtle so I guess it comes down to whether you are opting for a rich or a subtle look but they are equally good! Thank you for sharing. Warmest wishes, Lesley

Hi julie,
2 really lovely cards.
pencils and pens give such different effects but i really feel you have succeeded in both.
I too normally use the copics for skin tones with my pencils, not that i'm anywhere near as good as you at blending x
hugs

I like both of them Julie for different reasons. I like the versatility of the pencils and the softer tones they produce but I also like the results with the Copics more vibrant colours.
I suppose it's really a matter of personal choice so I'm no help at all.LOL

Hello Julie: You asked me what stamp I used for my Friday card. It was a c.c. design- Ski Bunny Trevor! I hope this helps!
I'm not all that good at writting everything down I use! I need to work on that!
Have a fantastic weekend,
Christine

Hi Julie, both cards are so adorable and you did a great job with the colouring. I am trying to get to grips with copics too, it's difficult when you don't have different shades of the same colour, but I do like their vibrancy.

Hiya Julie, both are gorgeous, but i like the pencils and to be honest Im using my distress inks and pencils loads more now than me copics, and I got all of them, really expensive if your not totally taken with them. Love everything you do xxxx

I understand that you can not choose, they are both very pretty! Love the colourscheme on both and the little touch of red.

Gorgeous cards and I am with you on the dilemma!! I always colour skin with copics but I think I like the look of pencils for the rest!! I was doing a demo on sat with pencils and promarkers and the ladies would go for the pencils if I was doing a pencil image and thenchange their mind and want promarkers if I was colouring with them!! LOL!! I like to mix and match to be honest...a vibrant funky image fo copics and a sofer more earthy look with pencils...have BOTH I say!!

Sorry for the essay!
Hugs Judy xx
